Our Story

Derek is a seasoned finance and accounting professional with over 15 years of diverse experience, encompassing CFO roles at high-growth startups and established companies. His career began in public accounting and corporate tax compliance, exposing him to various industries, including construction contractors, professional services firms, and financial institutions. Derek has a proven track record in managing FP&A functions, building customized solutions for each client, and advising small business owners at every stage. He has also guided several high-profile clients through the M&A process, gaining experience in deal structure, cash flow forecasting, financial models, and tax advisory. A licensed CPA, Derek gained significant US GAAP expertise through seven years in public accounting before launching River and Iron. A Central PA native, Derek enjoys a busy life with his wife and four young children, who bring him joy, laughter, and fulfillment and are his “why.”

Derek received his BBA from the Fox School of Business at Temple University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a dual degree in Finance and Real Estate. He is a licensed and active certified public accountant (CPA) in Pennsylvania and continues to progress and excel in his career. Derek enjoys building long-lasting foundational client relationships and providing strategic advisory, tax planning, and consulting on new trends and insights. Both Derek and the firm are currently based in Lancaster.
